MSN Messenger NT is a simple messaging system that lets you connect with users you save on your account and those you meet through the system. Once known as a competitor to Yahoo Messenger and AIM, this system managed to remain popular while those other programs constantly changed and switched to new systems. Though it does not have as many features as some of the other programs currently available, there is something about MSN Messenger that people love and make them want to stick around.

One of the best features of this program is that it lets you synchronize your Hotmail account with your MSN account. Though some people are a little surprised that Hotmail is still around, it ranks as one of the top and most popular free email systems in the world. Millions of people use the site to remain in contact with friends and family living in cities all around the world. As soon as you create an MSN account, the program will ask you for your Hotmail address and ask if you want to connect the two accounts. Even if you decline that feature, it will keep asking you each time you log in.

MSN Messenger NT is an easy to use program that works well on both older and newer computers. Because it does not take up much space, it is the perfect program to keep hidden in a folder or off to one side for use later. It comes with multiple customization features that let you change the color, design and layout of your chat window, and as with similar programs, you can open and run multiple chat windows at one time.

One of the reasons why other programs succeeded is because those programs included a video feature. This version of MSN Messenger now lets you chat with friends and family over the webcam on your computer. You need to send a video invitation to a friend and wait for a response before turning on your camera, but you do have the option of chatting when only one of you has a webcam. Those who remember these programs from the early days will get a kick out of seeing emoticons on their screens. MSN gives you a large selection of animated and interactive emoticons that you can send to friends.

MSN had a hit on its hands when it released Skype, which is a program that lets you chat in real time with people online using microphones and cameras. In 2014, MSN announced that it would discontinue its Messenger system and force users to switch to Skype. If you want to remember the fun that you had chatting with friends online, download a copy of MSN Messenger before it's too late.
